EPA ENGAGE CSOs/ MEDIA TO DIALOGUE AROUND NCA PROGRAMMES

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has engaged Civil Society Organizations and the Media on a dialogue on Natural Capital Accounting (NCA) Programmes in Accra.

The NCA Programme aims to integrate the value of ecosystem services into accounting and reporting systems  in a standard way.

Principal Program Officer, Environmental Protection Agency and National Co- Coordinator, Ghana NCA Programme,  Rev. Kwame Boakye Fredua,  addressing the media said, the NCA will account the use and flows of natural resources and will comprehensively track the stocks of resources.
"We will look at the process where we can comprehensively track and monitor the stocks and flows of our resources" he said.

 Objectives of NCA

NCA supports biodiversity management and strengthens capacity for natural capital accounting and it's use for policy development and investment planning in Ghana.
The NCA will dialogue, plan and contribute to informing investments under the Ghana Landscape Restoration and Small Scale Mining Project (GLRSSMP).

 NCA Accounts

NCA have sets of data for natural resources compatible with the System of National Account, which form the basis for calculating GDP and other economic indicators.

NCA follows an international standard adopted by the United Nations Commission called the System for Environmental - Economic Accounting (SEEA). NCA go beyond the standard national account to include natural goods and services that are not subject to market transactions and therefore are not explicitly accounted for.
