Election 2024: IGP Engages Christian Community in Accra for Peaceful Elections

As Ghana prepares for the December 7 general elections, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, and the Police Management Board (POMAB) have taken proactive steps to promote peace and stability by engaging the Christian community in Accra.

On Sunday, November 24, 2024, the election security task force, led by Dr. Dampare, visited several churches, including the Church of Pentecost at Dr. Wyatt Worship Centre, Resurrection Methodist Chapel, Holy Spirit Cathedral, Assemblies of God Church, Presbyterian Church of Ghana in Osu, and the Ghana Police Church at 37 Military Hospital.

During these visits, Dr. Dampare delivered a strong message, urging congregants to resist being used as instruments of violence during the electoral process. He highlighted the importance of safeguarding Ghana's hard-earned peace and stability and called on citizens to refrain from any actions that could disrupt the nation’s democratic journey.

The IGP also encouraged the Christian community to offer their prayers and support for the election security task force, emphasizing the need for divine guidance as they carry out their responsibilities before, during, and after the elections. Dr. Dampare further called for a spirit of patriotism, urging all Ghanaians to unite under the national flag after the polls, regardless of political differences.

This engagement forms part of the Ghana Police Service’s broader initiative to ensure a peaceful and secure electoral process. With the general elections just weeks away, Dr. Dampare’s outreach to the Christian community underscores the critical role of religious institutions in fostering peace and stability during this pivotal period.

As the nation edges closer to December 7, the Police Service continues to appeal to all citizens to prioritize peace, demonstrating Ghana's reputation as a beacon of democracy in Africa.
