NDC Meets Civil Society Organizations Over Voter Register Discrepancies

On September 23, 2024, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) held a meeting with civil society organizations (CSOs), members of the diplomatic community, and religious bodies to address concerns regarding discrepancies in the 2024 voter registration process. This engagement follows what the party described as an "unproductive" dialogue with the Electoral Commission (EC) on the same issue.

The NDC had previously organized the "Enough is Enough" protest on September 17, 2024, during which they submitted a petition to the EC, outlining their concerns about the voter registration process. The party claims that the current state of the voter register poses serious risks to the integrity of the upcoming December 2024 general elections.

Dr. Omane Boamah, the NDC's Director of Elections and IT, emphasized the need for a forensic audit of the voter register and the EC's IT system. According to Dr. Boamah, such an audit is essential to restoring public trust in the electoral process. He also expressed doubts about the EC’s ability to create a robust and reliable voter register for the upcoming elections.

"It is not just a matter of fixing the errors but addressing the vulnerabilities inherent in the voter register," Dr. Boamah stated, highlighting the party's broader concerns about the integrity of the system.

As the December elections approach, the NDC’s calls for transparency and accountability in the voter registration process continue to generate significant attention from various stakeholders.
