Dr. Agnes Ayisha Vows to Challenge Disqualification from 2024 Presidential Election
Dr. Agnes Ayisha, the founder and flagbearer of the Liberation National Youth for Change (LNYC), has announced her intention to take legal action following her disqualification from contesting in the 2024 presidential elections. According to Dr. Ayisha, she was not formally notified by the Electoral Commission (EC) about her disqualification and only discovered it through the Commission’s press release, which listed the 13 qualified presidential candidates.
In a statement, Dr. Ayisha expressed her frustration, noting that she had made several attempts to contact the EC for clarification. Despite her efforts to reach out via phone calls and text messages, she claims to have received no response from the Commission. “I got to know of my disqualification through the EC’s press release, and there has been no official communication from the Commission to my office,” she stated.
Describing the EC’s actions as "disrespectful," Dr. Ayisha accused the body of failing to follow due process. She assured her supporters that she would not accept the outcome and vowed to fight the decision in court. “We are not going to accept the outcome of the EC. I will fight this decision and pursue the matter till the end. I am a fighter, and I will not accept this kind of disrespect,” she declared.
Dr. Ayisha also raised concerns that the EC’s conduct may be in violation of her fundamental human rights as outlined in the 1992 Constitution of Ghana, as well as the Public Elections Regulations, 2020 (C.I. 127). She argued that such an act undermines the integrity of the electoral process and pledged to ensure that her case is heard and justice is served.
The Electoral Commission is yet to respond to Dr. Ayisha’s claims or provide further clarification on the reasons for her disqualification. As the 2024 elections draw near, her legal challenge could add a new dimension to the unfolding political landscape.
