Apostle Agbalenyoh Urges President Akufo-Addo to Sign Anti-LGBTQ+ Bill Before Leaving Office
Speaking at an event, Apostle Agbalenyoh lauded anti-LGBTQ+ activists for their efforts and expressed optimism that the global fight against homosexuality and lesbianism would gain momentum following the anticipated re-election of former U.S. President Donald Trump in the November 7, 2024, elections.
Homosexuality and Religious Opposition
Apostle Agbalenyoh reaffirmed his congregation's stance against LGBTQ+ practices, which he described as contrary to divine law. He cited several scriptures, including Leviticus 18:22-26, which condemns homosexuality, and Jude 1:7, which recalls the judgment of Sodom and Gomorrah. "God created two opposite sexes to fulfill His purpose for humanity," he said, referencing Genesis 1:27-28.
He also warned that global trends suggest a rising influence of atheism and homosexuality in modern political systems, a phenomenon he linked to biblical prophecies in Revelation 11:7-10.
A Call for Action
Apostle Agbalenyoh argued that Ghana is constitutionally and morally justified to pass the Anti-LGBTQ+ Bill. He pointed out that the 1992 Constitution, Parliament, and the Supreme Court have all declared LGBTQ+ practices unlawful in Ghana. Quoting Isaiah 5:20, he warned against legitimizing actions that he described as evil.
“The acceptance of abominable sexual practices seems to have become a prerequisite for democratic governance in some parts of the world, especially in Western Europe. However, Ghana must remain steadfast in upholding its values,” he stated.
He urged President Akufo-Addo to take a bold step before leaving office:
"Our beloved President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, be courageous, fearless, and honor Ghana, our motherland, by signing the Anti-LGBTQ+ Bill into law. This will be a legacy for generations yet unborn."
Appeal for Peaceful Elections
The Apostle also called for peace during and after the December 7 general elections, urging Ghanaians to uphold unity and avoid violence.
The event was graced by several dignitaries, including Alhaji Sulley and SP Dr. Sarah Aba Asare, among others.
Conclusion
Apostle Agbalenyoh's passionate appeal reflects the deep religious and cultural opposition to LGBTQ+ practices in Ghana. His call for decisive action by the president underscores the broader societal debate over the bill, which has sparked intense discussions locally and internationally. Whether or not the president will act before leaving office remains to be seen, but the topic is set to remain a focal point in Ghanaian politics and governance.
