Ghana Hosts Eighteenth African Continental Climate Outlook Forum to Boost Climate Services in Africa

Ghana recently hosted the Eighteenth African Continental Climate Outlook Forum (ACCOF), organized by the African Center of Meteorological Organization (ACMO). This annual event brought together climate experts from across the continent to discuss the latest developments in climate outlook services and explore ways to enhance coordination among Africa's Regional Economic Communities.

Under the theme "Improved Climate Services for Informed Decision Making in Africa," this year’s forum emphasized the need for robust climate services that can support effective policy and decision-making on the continent. The forum aims to equip Africa with Continental Climate Outlook services, facilitating harmonization and collaboration among regional communities in response to climate-related challenges.

Key Objectives of the Forum:

1. Provide Continental Climate Outlook Services: The forum serves as a platform to share knowledge and technical expertise, advancing climate prediction and outlook services to benefit nations across Africa.

2. Enhancing Collaboration Among Regional Economic Communities: Strengthening collaboration among Africa’s Regional Economic Communities remains a top priority, as cohesive efforts can lead to improved climate resilience across the continent.

In his remarks, Dr. Eric Asuman, Director General of the Ghana Meteorological Service (GMet), highlighted the importance of the forum for Ghana. He noted that the forum's collaborative environment has inspired him to explore new institutional partnerships, which could enhance GMet's capabilities in delivering reliable climate data and services.

The ACCOF is seen as a vital step in building a unified approach to climate adaptation across Africa. Through shared resources and collective expertise, the forum seeks to empower African nations with the tools they need to make informed, climate-sensitive decisions that protect communities, ecosystems, and economies.
