Ghana Security Agencies Pledge Support for Peaceful Elections

In a significant demonstration of commitment to Ghana's democratic process, the National Election Security Task Force has pledged its full support to ensure a peaceful and successful general election. This assurance was made during a high-level meeting with the leadership of the Electoral Commission (EC) at the Commission’s headquarters.

The meeting brought together key figures, including the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. Akuffo Dampare, and heads of other security agencies. During the discussions, IGP Dampare praised the Electoral Commission for its exceptional preparations for the elections, highlighting notable improvements compared to previous years.

“Madam Chair, you and your team, we are grateful to you. Ghana is grateful to you. Africa is grateful to you for showing the way for us when it comes to elections,” a representative of the Task Force stated, emphasizing the EC's pivotal role in strengthening Ghana’s democratic reputation.

Commitment to Peace and Security

The IGP assured the nation of the security agencies' readiness to maintain peace throughout the electoral process. He declared their commitment to protecting all Ghanaians, including EC staff and stakeholders, enabling them to perform their duties without fear or interference.

“We are ‘over ready’ to support the Electoral Commission and ensure peaceful elections,” IGP Dampare affirmed, underscoring their resolve to safeguard the integrity of the process.

Election Preparations on Track

The meeting also provided updates on key logistical preparations. Officials disclosed that 95% of the ballot papers had been printed, with nearly half of the ballot boxes ready for deployment. Plans for special voting and the distribution of materials from regional to constituency levels were also discussed. The security agencies reiterated their commitment to collaborating with the EC's technical team to finalize preparations.

“If we continue like this, truly, this election will be the most peaceful in the country’s history,” said a security representative, expressing optimism about the partnership's positive impact on the electoral process.

A Call for Unity and Peace

The session concluded with a call for Ghanaians to embrace peace and unity ahead of the elections. Both institutions urged citizens to back their words with actions that promote harmony and strengthen Ghana's democratic leadership.

As the nation moves closer to election day, the collaboration between the Electoral Commission and security agencies underscores a shared vision for a credible and peaceful electoral process.
