EC Chairperson Urges Calm Amid Election Results Delay

The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana, Mrs. Jean Mensa, has called for calm as the country awaits the official results of the recently held presidential and parliamentary elections. Speaking at a press conference on Sunday, December 8, 2024, she reassured Ghanaians that the results would be announced promptly after they are thoroughly verified.
Addressing concerns about the perceived delay, Mrs. Mensa reminded stakeholders and the general public that it has only been 23 hours since the polls closed. She noted that the EC is committed to working within the stipulated 72-hour timeframe to finalize and declare the results.
She further emphasized the Commission’s dedication to transparency and accuracy, assuring citizens that every step in the collation process is being conducted diligently.
“The Electoral Commission is fully engaged in ensuring that the electoral process is transparent and credible,” Mrs. Mensa stated. She urged all parties to remain patient and supportive as the verification process continues.
Ghana went to the polls on December 7, 2024, to elect a president and members of parliament. The EC’s adherence to its timelines is crucial in maintaining public confidence in the electoral process.
