IAA HOLD ANNUAL DELEGATES CONFERENCE
The Internal Audit Agency has held it's annual delegates conference to discuss current happenings in the Ghanaian economy and measures to remedy the situation.
The IAA conference is organized annually to invite stakeholders such as internal auditors, heads of institutions, finance directors, and developmental partners.
During this years conference at the University of Professional Studies, Accra ( UPSA), themed; Consolidating Democratic and Accountable Governance in Ghana: The Role of Internal Auditors.
Dr. Eric Odura Osei, Director General of the Internal Audit Agency, expressed concern over the rising number of irregularities among managers and Chief Executives in the Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDCE). He highlighted a 117% increase in irregularities within technical universities and colleges of education, suggesting significant issues that prompted the Auditor General's decision to separate the auditing of the these institutions from public corporations.
Dr. Osei announced that, in the upcoming audit year, the internal audit will collaborate more closely with the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission to improve standards in these education institutions.
Dr. Osei commended public sector auditors for their role in reducing financial irregularities by 32%, saving over Gh¢5 billion.
Justice Nana Barimah Yaw Kodie Oppong, Guest of Honor and Director of School of Law, called for better remuneration and recognition for ensuring transparency in the internal audit sector.
BACKGROUND
Internal Audit Agency is an apex body with the mandate to facilitate, coordinate, monitor and provide capacity building for internal audit unit within MDAs and MMDAs in Ghana.
