Accra Embraces Africa Oil Week with a Vision for Transforming the Continent’s Energy Sector


In a historic move set to shape the future of African energy, Africa Oil Week (AOW) announced its commitment to establishing robust partnerships that will secure Africa’s role as a central player in the global energy landscape. This week, Accra served as the launch pad for this transformative initiative, as AOW aims to position Africa at the forefront of global energy debates and accelerate natural resource development for the continent’s benefit.


 A New Era for Ghana and Africa


In his keynote address, President Nana Akufo-Addo of Ghana expressed his pride in welcoming Africa Oil Week to Accra, calling it a pivotal moment for Ghana and the continent. “I am personally delighted to endorse Africa Oil Week and to welcome its move from Cape Town to Accra,” he stated. The President extended his gratitude to Sankofa Events, AOW’s organizing partner, for choosing Ghana as the host nation and commended Mr. Paul Sinclair, CEO of Sankofa Events, for his inspiring commitment to advancing Africa’s energy sector.


The relocation of AOW to Ghana symbolizes a new chapter for Africa, where the continent can lead its own energy narrative and pursue a unified strategy for oil, gas, and broader energy development. This shift emphasizes a shared vision for equitable and sustainable growth in the African energy sector, with Ghana serving as a hub for this ambition.

 Empowering Africa’s Energy Vision and Investment Opportunities


Paul Sinclair, CEO of Sankofa Events and the driving force behind AOW, underscored Africa’s potential to shape its energy future. “Africa Oil Week is about Africa charting its own course for natural resource development and finding the right partners who share a vision of equitable growth,” Sinclair remarked. The event’s goal is to secure energy access for African people and cement Africa’s role in the global energy landscape.


The commitment from AOW’s organizers is clear: it is time for Africa to build a cohesive and forward-thinking strategy for its energy resources. With a balanced approach that includes both fossil fuels and renewables, AOW seeks to meet energy demand sustainably, while keeping Africa’s and the world’s needs at the forefront. Holding the event in Accra reflects this ambition to drive regional economic growth and establish Africa as a key player in the global energy arena.


 Unified Support from Ghanaian Leadership 


The press conference also featured notable contributions from Ghanaian officials, who echoed the President’s enthusiasm for the event. Hon. Minister Herbert Krapa emphasized the Ghanaian government’s commitment to ensuring broad representation from African Ministries, National Oil Companies, and Regulators at the 2025 Africa Oil Week Summit in Accra. “Our goal is to make it the premier energy dialogue on the continent, setting the stage for transformative discussions and partnerships that will propel Africa’s energy future,” Minister Krapa stated.


Adding to the dialogue, Mr. Egbert Faibille Junior, CEO of Ghana’s Petroleum Commission, described AOW’s arrival in Ghana as a landmark event. He noted its alignment with the Commission’s goal to enhance Ghana’s upstream potential and develop competitive frameworks for the nation’s energy sector. Faibille also emphasized the collaboration with regional regulators to ensure that AOW remains a truly Pan-African event.




 A Commitment to African Prosperity

Africa Oil Week’s dedication to Africa’s prosperity extends to supporting local service providers in international projects. Through strategic partnerships, such as with the Africa Prosperity Network, AOW is working to empower African companies to access international tenders and establish themselves as key suppliers in the energy sector.


A spokesperson from the Africa Prosperity Network highlighted the significance of this collaboration. “Hosting a world-class event like AOW in Accra is a proud moment for Ghana and Africa’s oil and gas sector. Over five days, the global energy community will turn its focus to Accra, exploring new projects, frontier markets, and deal-making opportunities within the African upstream.”


 A Vision for Africa’s Sustainable Energy Future


Both AOW and Africa Prosperity Network are deeply committed to promoting sustainable oil and gas development on the continent. Together, they believe that Africa must lead its own energy journey, using its abundant resources to drive socio-economic growth and secure a strategic position in the global energy market.


Looking forward to September 15-18, 2025, AOW aims to host a gold-standard event in Accra, drawing top international energy companies and industry leaders. With this landmark event, Ghana is poised to become a vital hub for energy dialogue, investment, and innovation across Africa, paving the way for a transformative era in the continent’s energy landscape.
